How do BBC journalists use new technology like smartphones and tablets to report the news anywhere and anytime? Who trains the next generation of content producers, camera technicians and vision mixers to deliver award winning shows like The Apprentice and Top Gear? How does the BBC ensure its people have the expertise and knowledge to deliver live streaming of all the Olympic events?
That's the job of BBC Academy.
I work for the Online Product team at BBC Academy and we are at the crossroads of design, engineering and content production responsible for the training and development of over 20,000 employees.
I first joined the BBC in November 2011 as a Project Engineer supporting the Technical Lead in the delivery of a major systems integration project. In August 2012 I transitioned to a new role at BBC Academy as a Technical Project Manager. In my current role I am evolving current internal systems and support the product team in preparation for an organisation-wide tech fresh project. In addition to this I am managing a number of highly visible projects including live event streaming using infrastructure developed for the London 2012 Olympic games.
My background has been in web design, development and project management and I continue to practice and develop these skills in my own time. I have been working closely with a social work organisation called IFSW on the development of their website and online services.
Since 2006, I have been writing reviews on the latest gadgets and tech accessories called Gadgat.
Some of my online creations include designdrip.co, SOSJapan and TechCast Reviews.
